The Hankyoreh reports the shocking news that your officemates might not be being straight with you.
Eight in ten office workers believe themselves to be “living obsequiously” at work because they fear losing their jobs.
The jobs portal site Incruit (인크루트) and research firm Embrain (엠브레인) announced on the 16th they had surveyed 1,075 office workers nationwide, finding that 80.1% (861 people) reported that “because of the poor economy , I have acted in obsequious and pathetic ways at work.”
The most common such acts were “flattering someone in opposition to my true opinion,” and “sucking up to my superiors”. Other common acts were “giving briefings on subjects about which I know nothing at all,” “voluntarily staying late even though I have nothing to do,” and “smiling and making a 90-degree bow to my boss when we have a conflict.”
